Shabby or Junk decorating has moved from the domain of newlyweds and first time apartment dwellers to main stream and uptown. It is now considered very chic to include items that your Grandmother might have thrown out in the trash. What is this new decorating style and how do you get it?
Junk decorating appeals to those who cherish the unusual, appreciate the workmanship, charming defects and aged patina of discarded objects. Castoffs from your attic, or someone else’s, such as old chests and trunks, chairs or mirrors, can become treasures. Look beyond the discoloration and peeling paint. If the item has ‘good bones’, make it a part of your new decor. Remember when selecting your items, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If it appeals to you, then you can make it work.
Now let’s hear it from our readers. What piece of junk have you made into a national treasure?
